What was I thinking when I agreed that we should drive to San Antonio? Yes, we were going for a blogger conference that included your family, but should we really drive. It has been a while since we have driven farther than my hometown. We thought that driving to San Antonio will be a breeze plus we can go to the Alamo and stop in San Marcos at the outlet mall.
I thought that we would have some time in silence with Emerson taking a nap (Emerson calls it sleeping and doesn’t like the word, nap) at least for a couple of hours. I mean, sometimes he falls asleep on the hour and a half hour drive to his Granny’s house. So, for a five and half hour drive he should sleep for a while (like a couple of hours), right? Wrong! My “Little One” stayed up and talked the whole time! LOL! He even talked as the back seat navigator with my phone in his hand.
He told us about the traffic in front of us, including the color and what the colors mean—red when it was slow or for an accident, yellow for kinda slow, green when it was good, how much time it would take to get through it, and even the traffic behind us. We found out about all of the businesses, schools, and landmarks for miles and miles! Thank you, Google Maps for having such detailed and accurate information. 🙂 My phone finally needed charging and that put an end to Emerson’s navigation.
We let Emerson bring his iPod, Nintendo 3DS, and his book The Great Greene Heist on this trip, but he could not stay on his devices without reading the same amount of time. If he played games on his iPod for 30 minutes, he had to read for 30 minutes (and I set the timer!) I called myself being strategic with his use of technology and reading, but he outsmarted me. Eventually, he decided that it was not worth it to play games when he realized that reading made him sleepy. LOL, he figured it out! So, he just talked. 🙂
Tony and I were very entertained and learned a lot about taking this trip. I am sure that Emerson will remember our time together and how much fun he had when we finally made it to our hotel and Sea World and Aquatica AdventureCon 2015. Our trip to San Antonio was the perfect road trip for us!
P.S. This is Emerson on our way home from Sea World and Aquatica AdventureCon 2015.
Have you ever been on a road trip with someone who would not stop talking?
