Last week I wrote about my healthy eating challenge. This week I have to talk about exercise. Yes, the healthy eating challenge also includes physical fitness. This is something that you must do (you already know this) for good health. Let me say this—I am not a nutritionist, personal trainer, or expert in this field. I am a woman who has tried many ways to lose weight and get healthy (with and without exercise or medication). I have spent money on shots, prescriptions, doctor visits, colonics, and gym memberships (I even worked at a gym once in the children’s club for free membership).
Ultimately, what worked best for me was good old fashioned walking. And, it did not cost a thing! Well, I did invest in a good sports bra and sneakers. After walking for about six months, Toni (my sister) invited me to a free bring-a-buddy week at Camp Gladiator (CG) at 5 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I reluctantly went and soon regretted my decision (I was sore all over and could barely walk) . That was over four years ago and I cannot see myself not going. LOL! 🙂
My way of getting healthy with exercise consists of going to my outdoor boot camp three times per week (the goal) and sometimes walking on Tuesday and Thursday after work before picking up my son from aftercare. My plan is to always work out five times per week, but sometimes it just does not work out. I have not been walking after work since June—no excuse (it has been really hot) but honestly I just did not want to. I took a break, but kept going to boot camp.
I started back walking yesterday after work. It felt good and it always relaxes me. I instantly feel all of my worries float away when I walk. This is how I truly unwind. An extra benefit is the sun is good for you. There is nothing like a little Vitamin D from the sun’s rays to lift your mood and spirit—for FREE!
Tip: I keep workout clothes, a hoodie, hat, shoes, and sunblock in my car. I’m always ready just in case. 🙂
How are you getting healthy with exercise?
