I was very excited to be going to New York for my fourth blogger conference. I could not believe that I was going to be attending Blogger Bash 15! When I told my friends, everyone asked if I was going by myself. I said, “Yes!” “Oh, no,” they replied. “You don’t need to go by yourself!” Well, I guess my husband felt the same way because the next thing I knew, he and my son were also coming with me. LOL! So, my blogger conference is now a family trip. The Blogger Bash started on July 16th to July 17th and we decided to go a day early so that I could spend some time with them before the conference.
I chose to stay in one of the hotels suggested based on the distance to the venue at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers. The Yotel was reasonably priced and I was warned that it was rather small. I made a reservation change and thought that the accommodations would be suitable for my now included family. Wrong! We all slept in what felt like a full size bed, but was really a queen sized bed. It was very tight quarters and I am not used to living like that. It really would have been small for just me, so you can imagine how sharing a space with three people felt. The other thing about this hotel is the automated luggage robot handler. It is pretty cool and impersonal at the same time. For me, I like dealing with people (sometimes) and check-in was at a kiosk, they call it “express check-in.” Yes, there were a couple of humans in the lobby to help you, but the 4th floor is where all the happenings began! The restaurant, front desk, computers, rooftop terrace, and elevator to your room. The good thing about this hotel is that it is really close to Times Square!
We arrived at the hotel around 12:15 pm. and started our journey in New York City. I had an “itinerary” of the places that we wanted to visit for our three day visit. I wanted to spend as much time with Emerson (of course we have to make memories as a family) and then he and his daddy could make their memories together without me.
Day 1: Empire State Building, High Line at Hudson Yards, and Rockefeller Center. We made it to all of these attractions, plus Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, stopped in Zara, Nine West, Express, H&M, Aldo, and ate at TGI FRIDAYS!
Well, 27,390 steps later and 272 minutes of walking all around New York City (sometimes in circles) we finally ended our day 1.
Day 2: New York Public Library, Madison Square Garden, and Grand Central Station. I went to my conference and left Tony to follow the schedule (I know what you are thinking…not my schedule, Tony actually chose the places 🙂 ). Emerson chose Toys R Us!
Day 3: Statue of Liberty. They did not make it to the Statue of Liberty. Emerson was tired and time didn’t permit after finding The New York Stock Exchange, going to the 911 Memorial and Freedom Tower. Whew!!
On Friday, while leaving the Blogger Bash, I met a nice, new blogger friend @domestiquemanager and started walking with her. She had been riding the subway to the conference and was trying to decide on taking a taxi or the subway (I just knew that I was too exhausted to walk with three bags on my shoulders). So, we started walking and I ended up following her to the subway. She showed me and told me what I needed to do to get back to my hotel. LOL We rode together, but her stop was first. Yep, I was a little nervous, but did not want to look totally like I was lost and a tourist. 🙂 I got off at the next stop by myself and found my way. All I knew was that I needed to get to 42nd and 10th.
Little did I know that Tony and Emerson were also riding the subway. I guess we were all tired by that Friday afternoon.
My first trip to New York was pretty cool. I enjoyed my family and we were able to do a lot of sightseeing and get in a little vacation at the same time. Blogger Bash 2015 was one of the nicest conferences that I have attended– the venue, the people, the brands, the food. Plus, I got in some good exercise by walking because I really didn’t like paying for a ride. LOL, but really! My first trip to New York will not be my last trip. I plan to go back next summer!
