I had my third swimming lesson on Tuesday and it went pretty well. I feel like I’m doing better considering I still don’t like putting my face in the water. This time I was ready to start by using the floaty across the pool when I got a cramp in my calf. I had only made it halfway across the pool when the “charley horse” stopped me. LOL! I’ll bet my instructor was like “what?!” 🙂 I had to take a minute, but I worked through the pain and kept it moving.
I practiced floating and kicking some more and then she introduced this new skill that she wanted me to try. “You want me to what?” I asked. Michelle wanted me to push-off with my hand and foot and swim under water as far as I could go! What! I was like, wait a minute. After a minute and a few demonstrations, I tried it. Of course I swallowed water and started choking. The people in the water aerobics class were looking at me…oh well! I can’t help it that my choking was loud and that there is an echo.
I was pushing off the wall and swimming out by myself! The only problem was that I kept trying to breathe through my nose under water which made me choke and gasp for air. At the end, I did a little bit better and actually swam out farther than I thought.
For just having three swimming lessons, I am coming along nicely and making progress. I am proud of myself for trying, but I still have a long way to go. Hopefully, I will be able to swim in the pool (the ocean may be too much to shoot for) when we go on our family vacation.
I hope you have enjoyed reading about my third swimming lesson!
